This August, The Scooches are living our album title, Lift You Up — in song, in community, and in creativity.
Earlier this month, Betina Hershey and Nick Russo performed in Forest Hills with young performers from the Garden Players musical theater program at MacDougal Park, sharing songs from the original kids’ musical Magic It Up.
On August 8, Betina and Nick are heading west to perform at Jillith Fair – Loving Jill Sobule, a tribute concert at The Ivy Room in Albany, CA. Betina will sing two of Jill’s powerful, poetic songs — Houdini’s Box and Bitter — joined by Nick on guitar and accompanied by Jill’s longtime music director Julie Wolf, Vicki Randle, and other special guests.
Meanwhile, The Scooches have been deep in the recording studio, and creativity is flowing. They’re currently working on two upcoming albums:
-
One may be a Betina Hershey Featuring The Scooches project, highlighting Betina’s voice and songwriting in a new light.
-
The other blends brand-new songs with never-before-released recordings from as far back as 2017 — including unreleased sessions with the brilliant Miles Griffith.
“It was so exciting to rediscover these recordings,” says Betina. “We were originally going to release them, but we pivoted to focus on Get Us Out of Fearland. Now, it feels like opening a memory box — and we’re thrilled to bring them back to life.”
And this fall, thanks to a grant from the Mockingbird Foundation, Betina and Nick will co-lead a free band workshop for local youth in Queens — bringing their passion for music education and collaborative performance to the next generation.
From the stage to the studio, and coast to coast, The Scooches are staying true to their mission: uplifting, bold, boundary-pushing music with heart.
